On November 20, 1776, British and Hessian forces invaded New Jersey by crossing the Hudson River from New York. They came ashore at Huyler's Landing (also known as Lower Closter Landing), moved inland up Huyler's Landing Road, and headed south down this road towards the American troops at Fort Lee. Historic Markers along Tenafly Road mark their route.

See the Fort Lee page of this website for a detailed description of the events surrounding Fort Lee and the invasion.
