The church was built in 1764. In 1853, the building was enlarged. [1]

Several important Revolutionary War figures have a connection to this church: [2]
      • John Hart: signer of the Declaration of Independence, was baptized here on December 31, 1713.
      • Molly Pitcher: Legend has it that the heroine of the Battle of Monmouth, was baptized here as Mary Ludwig.
      • Major Elias Phillips: credited with attacking a Hessian supply train passing through the village, taking prisoners for Washington, and giving
        the supplies to the residents of Maidenhead.

There are at least 5 Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the cemetery: [3]

Under the command of Colonel Edward Hand a successful delaying action, fought at the Shabakunk Creek, prevented British forces from reaching Trenton before nightfall where the Second Battle of Trenton took place at the Assunpink Creek January 2, 1777. [5]
